It is beyond comprehension how a mother could just abandon their new-born baby.
However, this inhuman act is happening.
In the latest case, a baby girl was found at a bush near a dumping area in Ipoh, Perak.
It is fortunate that the quick action of a man had plucked the baby to safety. Her body was wet because of rain and had turned bluish probably due to the overnight cold.
Otherwise, the baby will be the seventh victims who died because of the evil act of their mothers who should be pouring their loves and care to the young ones.
The media’s coverage of such cases has brought about some awareness among the society to be on the look-out and safe the unfortunate baby from the throes of their inhumane mothers.
What is more important is to ensure that the despicable act of discarding babies will not recur. In this case, it is necessary that the “prevention better than cure” approach be used. We do not want to see more innocent babies born out of illicit sex, were left by the road side or thrown into the ditch like an unwanted creature.
We should not also allow cases of dead babies thrown into the rubbish bin and ended up in the jaws of animal such as dogs foraging for food.
All this madness must be stopped. The society regardless of their backgrounds should be given the lesson and reminders that an act of discarding a baby is not just a sin but an evil that must be condemned and given punishment.
Those involved must be pursued and caught for them to face justice.
However, in this case, we should not only give emphasis on penalty or punishment but also on the aspect of education and repentance.
Those who had been naïvely overdoing should not be allowed to wander and commit more sins but should be shown the right path.
The effort in mitigating this social menace should be held regularly and not on a seasonal basis. All quarters must view this menace seriously and to give their effort in resolving it. Showing sympathy alone is insufficient as if there is nothing happening.
Let us come together and show our concern to weed off the menace and to let the new-born babies continue their live despite the fact that they did not ask to be present in this world.
